Science can clear up misconceptions and errors of understanding when belief contradicts scientific proofs, when the symbolic is misunderstood to be literal, such as talking snakes, 6 days of Creation, Flood of Noah, rising from the dead, etc.
I think that the effect that the Bible has had on humanity is suggestive of something more than collective psychosis. I think there is something in the Bible that moves people at a spiritual level and that can only come from God.
