    I said that unknows are the bread and butter of science.
    I didn't say that an unknowable first cause on which understanding of unknowns is the basis of science. Science is based on definable understandable hypotheses which can be tested and refuted.
    A common misunderstanding about science that it is always set in concrete.

    We know that the universe is made of matter and energy and the relationship between these and gravity and know that a first cause was not required.
    We don't know if what we have is special because what we have may or may not have other options - in that sense it is important.
    Increasingly science is becoming less reliant on a first cause and is now becoming a hindrance.
    This may change (or not) as we learn more.

    Leaving God out of the discussion would leave out what motivated a large portion of humanity. Religion is about God and God is about religion; God and religion are Siamese twins that can't be separated. In other words if you stick with a God you stuck with a religion.
    I suspect that our religious colleagues will agree irrespective of personal beliefs.
