the problem here is an assumption about what "God" is
if we study the temperament of God in the OT and the (idealist) temperament of Jesus in the NT, we can say they are very different
based on the ideal, Jesus fully embodied *SOMETHING* which was the new incarnation of 'God'
although he embodied that *SOMETHING*, only that *SOMETHING* can raise a man to spiritual heights
for example, the *SOMETHING* that makes Michael Jordan the greatest basketball player also makes the ordinary man a poor basketball player
Michael Jordan cannot make Joe Bloggs as good as him, just as Xesus could not ultimately dictate the destiny of his disciples
instead, his disciples had to receive that *SOMETHING* to create their spiritual destiny
this, however, does not mean the *SOMETHING* was not fully manifest or reincarnate in the man named Yeshua
