I was not attempting to extol the virtues (or otherwise) of Jesus or of god, I was merely pointing out that fairly early on someone tried to reconcile the perceived power of Jesus with humility. You also excluded the preceding verses which are necessary to make sense of the bit that you copied.
It is not often that I find myself defending the religious, but what evidence do you have for your statement.

I can buy into The Roman Empire buying into the religion for selfish reasons, but have no evidence that Jesus was a drunkard. Very little in known about the personal life of Jesus.
