Unlike some green/alternative energy sources, underground coal gasification (ucg) isnt waiting for technical break-throughs. The process has been utilised for 60 to 80 yrs in the Soviet Union and is enjoying a renaisance of sorts here and overseas.
The ucg process involves insitu oxidation of otherwise marginal coal seams to extract low calorific gas suitable for electricity generation ... gas imo is the energy stop gap between peak oil and viable long term solutions.
So, going into 2007 my portfolio is long on gas (unlike me lol) ... conventional and coal bed methane and has a tiny flutter (but a close eye) on ucg and a close eye on hotrocks as a viable scalable long term energy source.
For exposure to ucg you can consider PCE, LNC and MEE here in Australia ... I bought a few PCE last Fri at 2.2c.
