Energy storage fans may want to take a look at CBD. Has recently purchased a company called LLoyd Energy, is in a partnership with Tassie Hydro to commercialise a system which stores energy as heat trapped in high-purity graphite.

Not sure of the technical merits of the different approaches but seems to be some interest from the market of late.
