Well, I think that it all just doesn't matter much one way or the other. So long as oil is above $100 people will expore alternatives to oil wells and get excited about those.
So long as a large percentage of people believe in global warming then that will make the alternatives even more attractive.
And who really knows about global warming (I think it is reality and could also post many pages here but won't), but the perception of global warming being a problem has taken years to develop and won't be undone, if wrong, overnight.
However, ultimately our pressing need for oil and electicity is likely, in the short to merdium term, to trump contentious environmental factors.
And the fact of a power plant in one location won't much affect the need for another, so long as there are potential net shortages of electricity projected.
