The book of Revelation that is being referred to in the above post was written around 96 CE and was predicting things that were to happen in the future, ''in the Lord's day''. By this time most of the 'first Christians' were already dead.

(Revelation 1:10) By inspiration I came to be in the Lord’s day, and I heard behind me a strong voice like that of a trumpet,

It was also predicting things that would affect all mankind, not just the Jews.

(Revelation 16:14) They are, in fact, expressions inspired by demons and they perform signs, and they go out to the kings of the entire inhabited earth, to gather them together to the war of the great day of God the Almighty.

A war against ''God the Almighty'' is one man can't possibly win.

That doesn't take into account what the bible describes and promises, or what the first Christians expected to happen within their lifetime. Contemporary believers are projecting their own expectations onto the text, which in turn shapes their interpretation of the given descriptions.
