I asked a similiar thing about the Wa newspaper and their rumour of the day (EMS) in this case. Was informed by someone at EMS that they have pursued that path and journalist can basically print what they want and they cannot be held accountable.
It sux big time... bit like politicians and the lies they are allowed to tell.
