I think the problem with the small companies such as VOS (your example) and QTK, is that no matter how good the product is, some companies lack the critical mass and marketing expertise to get their product(s) globally recognised and accepted whilst they still have something unique.
In the absence of these assets then they lose first strike advantage and soak up shareholder funds in the meantime. The smart investor recognises and accepts these shortcomings early in the game, and get out. The hard head believers just stick in there and inevitably get burned.
Another couple of companies that I watch fall into the same category - ITE and SEN.
