    i'm a dr, been following some of these companies esp after t4p recommended ksx. I love t4p's recommendations and he is a very valued contributor on HC for me. Uncannily good, esp with resource stocks (which, like most, is a sector where I am a complete and utter n00b!)

    But I think you can only follow KSX from a technical point of view, it would be dangerous to attach any fundamental value to it.

    I believe you are right with your comparison between cmp and ksx

    I'm not familiar with the market for sleep apnoea devices and CMP's competitors however one thing is sure;

    you cannot definitively diagnose sleep apnoea without a sleep monitoring device

    you can very easily diagnose and treat asthma without any devices whatsoever, we always have and we always will.

    the only real treatment for sleep apnoea is a positive airway pressure device which helps patients immensely. I just saw that CMP make diagnostics AND treatment. Very smart!

    as a GP I would never ever bother with a "wheezometer"; I will just listen to the patient and listen to their chest. Maybe do a peak flow or spirometry; 50-100 year old technologies. There is no need for anything more. You treat according to symptoms. Better treatments would be useful, but no doctor I know is crying out for a "wheezometer". The worst asthma has no wheeze anyway, and there is also cough variant asthma which has no wheeze. Even in ICU, if a patient is unconscious from asthma/coad then they will be tubed with monitoring devices on them looked after 24/7 by a dedicated nurse.

    Look at a company like UCM with a monitoring device that is actually useful, yet it cannot gain any market traction and it's shares tank. Same with surgeon and Australian of the Year Dr Fiona Wood's company CCE.

    Biotechs can be very frustrating no matter how good or useful the product. Some may be very successful trading the hype and the charts. Very difficult trading the fundamentals. Look at BTA with a PE ratio of 15, they still tank. But people who traded the bird flu hype and got out near the top did very well.

    I personally would stay completely away from a company that produces a product that has very little market like KSX. But I agree some might do very well if the marketing, the hype and the charts work out well for them. Good luck to you!

    I have just had a bit of a look at CMP for the first time today, they certainly look like they are in with an expanding market and devices that actually are very useful, with both diagnostics and treatment. How do they compare with the competition?

    Sleep apnoea is a rapidly increasing market due to rapidly increasing obesity (the major cause of sleep apnoea) and increasing awareness of the condition amongst doctors. I'm fully commited at present but I would agree from my initial research in the company that it looks good.

    There are other comparisons that can be made vis-a-vis Biota and KSX.

    Biota have a great anti flu treatment, yet it is just not used. Why? Because most doctors are more comfortable with the old methods of vaccination and rest and fluids and panadol. And Relenza costs a fair bit of money.

    KSX have a great asthma monitoring device, but it just won't be used. Why? Because doctors are comfortable with current diagnostics (which mostly rely on the ear and the brain anyway!) and KSX's products will cost money.

    Actually, Relenza does make people with influenza better, (and is vital for pandemic preparedness) but I doubt KSX's product's will help anyone with asthma get better any more than they would with a good doctor and symptom monitoring and an asthma management plan with regular visits to their GP.
