I've seen considerable numbers of words concerned with groundwater quality. Despite the CHinchilla pilot burn causing absoluitely no groundwater concerns this issue seems to remain as a potential concern.
however one thing that might have been overlooked in all the noise is the fact that water is actually a by=product of the UCG process.
Indeed the following figures give the Outputs from the Chinchilla pilot burn.
Gas 800 million NM3 per year
Hydrocarbons 15,000 t per year
Phenols 3,700 to per year
Anhydrous NH3 1,500 t per year
Water 200 Mega litres per year.
The water supply in that area around Kingaroy may well be supplementeed by this so called "by-product" that will no doubt be very useful for farmers in the area.
So no groundwater contamination and excess water production . . . seems only halve the story ahs been told so far.
