Given that US elections are largely determined by who turns up, the fact that Biden's enthusiasm-generation is nil, must be a big headache for the Dems. It's surely dawned on them that Biden's oh-so-correct-line pick of Karmala Harris for VP is a ball-&-chain: if he drops her, it looks bad, if he keeps her, it looks bad, and I cannot imagine she can run as Presidential candidate if Biden carks it or pulls out.
So at the moment, there's no plan-B, and plan-A is going to have
real problems running a full-pace campaign while in office. In 2020, neither applied, and now he's 4 years older. No chance.
Biden needs to have a health episode, to give him cover to pull out of the race, but not so serious as to step down as President. It's a conundrum.
As for Trump: how do dictators take power in a political system that has some sort of popular input, something short of actual democracy:
by being clowns. a butt of jokes and derision.
Then they become dictators.
And it is an unpleasant fact that a lot of Americans are in the mood for a dictator. Including the majority of Republicans, at all levels.
