    Hello watso
    Politics are so … transient…
And sabine was told it can be fruitless to discuss areas where people will not change their minds due to us all thinking we are right and everyone else should think like us anyway, and because we then might get threatened when someone does not feel as we do … And who taught us to think like that anyhow and it’s a good thing we are not disagreeing with them too, else how would we know ourselves?
    … And do we?
Politics leads to questions of identity and free will and is therefore fraught with danger.

Vacuum flasks, on the other hand are real and solid …..maybe even eternal according to some of the folk at your survival link ….
…. One of them said the best flasks ever are the Stanley brand, cork stopper, 1950s N944 models.
This made me very excited as this morning I took another photo of the Stanley’s base :

… And I think my beloved Stanley thermos might be one of those very N944 ones.

……………(The rapid evolution of the esteem in which I hold my Stanley surely proves how creative the study of vacuum flasks can be compared to other subjects!).

-If so this means it might be veryflask Sir Edmund made tea from on the morning of May 29, 1953, whilst sitting on Mt Everest waiting for his boots to thaw so he did not have to make the final ascent barefoot.
Or it might be the very flask Ed’s friend, George shared tomato soup with him from later that day, when Ed ‘n Tenzing met him on the way down.
”Well George, we knocked the bastard off” said Edmund (as he knocked off that soup)…

…. Anyway as he was from New Zealand and as, now I have a date of build, why should my honoured flask NOT have been part of his 1953 kit .. or George’s?

And I will try that rice … or a version thank you.
And thank you very much for stimulating my weekend expedition also watso; An adventure in thermodynamics and practical experiment that led to the rescue of an unloved Stanley flask from years of languish under a sink cupboard …..and I hope you are enjoying your port.
A life at sea must have been very interesting !

    cheers
