James Fisher starts Wave Hub upgrade
Improved cable links to be completed by 12 June

James Fisher Marine Services has started the installation of upgraded cable links at Cornish test centre Wave Hub.
The Barrow-in-Furness company has hired subsea construction support vessel Polar Onyx from Norwegian shipping outfit GC Rieber.
The Polar Onyx will be used to replace the current 11kV-rated dry mate connectors with 33kV-rated in-line joints, install four new lengths of cable tails totalling 6km and terminate the extension cables with half of a 33kV dry mate connector.
Earlier this month, James Fisher was awarded a £2.83m contract for the works from Wave Hub.
The installation is expected to be completed by 12 June.
The completion of the project will facilitate the connection of Finnish wave developer Wello’s 1MW Penguin device, which is due to be deployed by the end of July.
