Delta and Roach have been highly supportive with the CVM sensors. Safety has always been one of the main dot points put up for using them but the cost savings gained from using them was really the driver. Now after what’s been happening safety has become the greater push, Boeing CEO has openly expressed this. The present testing with NDT offers equal accuracy as CVM but with CVM the FAA could and more than likely will request more tests cycles at much smaller costs. This plus removing the need to tear down structures on airframe as required in carrying out NDT measurements will deliver higher safety benefits for aircraft. If Boeing are true to their word they need to put words into action.
I am hoping this will now accelerate the CVM adoption all eyes are on the safety factor.
