Lets take a good look at this retail business are being force to cut the excessive margins they have been charging us for years and instead of calling it the price they say its a sale , lets face it , its now the going price its not a sales price.
If retail prices are going down as people try to compete with each other and internet retail as people are saving more, house prices are dropping , other than the mining states wages are fairly static , what is driving inflation?
Answer: Groceries
But Coles and Woolies are telling us they are dropping prices.
The fact is they are not , they are dropping prices on some high volume items (that were already over priced) whilst putting up prices on everything else and they will use any excuse to jack up prices as high as possible.
There is a shortage of banna 's due to the weather issues so they double or triple the price but I will lay money on it they didn't pay double or triple , the price may have gone up for them but their suppliers would be too scared to change them too much more as they could get squeezed out once the other growers recovered.
The dunopoly that these two companies hold is a blight on the whole country , they control the supply and retail sections of nearly the entire countries food supply ,lets face it we all need to eat we don't all need a new hand bag.
They grew massively in the Howard Era and the current government lacks the guts to break them up.
We woud go along way to fighting infaltion in this coutry if we had more competition in the grocery sector.
