When the averages begin to tighten up and compress there is a signal of a change in sentiment - which often comes before information hits the market.
Companies can release new information that will render the chart to the left side largely irrelevant - this happens very infrequently. Trend analysis provides the opportunity to take a bet on when good risk reward trades/positions could be opened.
