Another reason I don't trust the short statistics is that there are supposedly 16 million of them right now for WBT, so with current volumes (~500,000 per day) it would take them 32 trading days, or 6.5 weeks for all to cover (and that's assuming all sales go to shorters). If WBT announce some of the big news that is now due, additionally the first thing that would happen is that the sell side would thin down dramatically, so it would become even harder for shorters to cover. Those numbers are truly horrible if you got caught. I simply can't understand shorting a stock that has an SP at long-term lows.
