    Hi @reon1

"But not sure we can claim 4DS is slower."

Depends what you are talking about. Their technology certainly is now extremely fast - second only to SRAM - as detailed in the following series of announcements last year pertaining to their 'Fourth Platform Lot', which was delivered in early July:

Write time of 4.7ns - 3 orders faster than WBT's ReRAM. Endurance and retention are also exceptional, with the upper limit of endurance yet to be determined, but probably in excess of 3B write cycles - 4 orders of magnitude better than WBT's ReRAM.

On the other hand their progress has been painfully slow - seemingly stalled prior to their breakthrough, and they are still only at 60nm with the 4th platform lot. Imec is currently working on their 5th and 6th platform lots which are due for delivery in Q3 of CY 2024. That is over a year after the 4th platform lot.

The 6th platform lot is supposed to be at 20nm. If they can demonstrate the same kind of performance at this node, I think they will really capture the attention of the industry. However, I agree with Waiks that 4DS seem to lack a commercialisation plan, and their strategy is probably either to sell their technology, or to be taken over

This is in fact the usual lifecycle of start-ups that develop a new technology. There can be many high hurdles in the path to commercialisation (funding, proving/certifying, volume production, marketing etc), and in a competitive world, and with the clock ticking on their patents, it is too much for most small R&D companies to navigate.

WBT, on the other hand, have a board and management team with a long-term vision to become a major industry player, and are already executing on the first step (embeded) of their commercialisation plan.

    All IMO.
