imo standard formula pump and dump on mkt side but tech looks crazy good from what little i understand of it. those recent trials that sparked the research/cr were damn impressive - suggests they may have a means to beat the memory storage compression gap issue that people have been talking about every few years
but it appears a long time til meaningful cashflow - thats what always separated BUD with Ohm from BUD ex Ohm and you saw what happens there when you have great tech but no momentum and you havent developed any insto awareness in your market
there's a pretty decent rule of thumb - if research comes out and its from a 'broker' you havent heard of - and its the first research on a stock - then its usually about to pump and dump as retail brokers like Bell Potter and Pattersons push it up using non brand-linked research that causes them no reputational risk when it subsides post the CR and there's no business cost committed to keeping the research updated
whereas the higher quality brokers that tilt to either HHNW private clients or institutions - when they put out research its a brand committment that means they think it has long term secular upside and their analysts keep coverage updated at leats 6 monthly usually.. they only incur that wage cost if they think they can generate house brokerage + eventual corporate finance flows to make a profit from it
so they tend to do that only for stocks that have insto flows or on a sustained momentum levitation sectors like lithium
this is why almost no one has any biotech analysts any more. and gold analysts got down to about 5-6 until 2015 from about 30 in 2011
doesnt mean the former cant go on a good run.
wbt looks like the kind of tech a big should bid for and thats the kind of sell i imagine brokers are putting on it for it to keep going
but that kind of talk needs ongoing fuel to keep a stock up - either more research outcomes or media coverage of m&a in the space
i guess broadcomm bidding for qualcomm might have some halo. handset chips are still chips
but i need to do more work on it to get a feel for what research update timings are expected to be before i go back into it
