"Reward Agreement Update
At a Special General Meeting of WDLAC members
last December in Parnngurr (Cotton Creek)
Martu Traditional Owners signed an Indigenous
Land Use Agreement that will enable potash
mining on strictly limited parts of Lake Disappointment
in exchange for job and contracting
opportunities, strong cultural and heritage protections
and part ownership of Reward Minerals.
The board resolved to distribute money from the
signature payment to Martu Elders who, as the
custodians of law and culture, have been relied
upon for native title to succed.
The board decided that this money should be
paid to the most senior Martu People first so that
the Elders are cared for in terms of their health
and other needs."
