A lot of things in people's daily lives they take for granted come from oil. Or if not directly, then indirectly through the use of fuels for the supply chain.
My personal theory is that the recent green energy push has a second agenda. To reduce our reliance on the substance because of the risk it exposes us to politically. Think of the power OPEC wields for example. Or how Europe needed Russian gas to meet their energy requirements. The west appears to be trying to decouple itself.
It's a shame this has become so politicized by both sides.
