Well here's what I don't get. Australia is responsible for approx 1% of global emissions. So in one sense what we do as far as renewables and net zero etc etc wont impact much on the issue globally (it would be different if we could put a 'dome' over Australia)
Countries like China and India and Russia and drill baby drill USA are the main players. They are introducing renewables to different degrees at a pace that suits themselves, they are continuing to burn fossil fuels at massive levels.....and there aint nothin we can do about it.
Yet despite the above we continue to move at a self declared pace here in Australia (closing coal fired power stations, making it near impossible to explore for oil and gas, erecting at great cost and in a massive hurry windfarms and solar etc etc) that is clearly hurting our economy and making 'the cost of living' the number one issue in this country when I can barely remember such a term being uttered in my lifetime.
How stupid are we ? Why the crusade to have all this happen in one generation ? We are destroying our economy and quality of life for this generation and the next to what end ? What will happen will happen anyway because 99% of global emissions are outside our control.
I'm not saying F it ...lets just keep burning fossil fuels indefinitely because we're just 1%......we need to play our part ....I'm just questioning the crazy urgency that has us shutting down coal fired power stations and strangling oil and gas exploration when such things could be done much more gradually and sensibly.....such that the next couple of generations can enjoy an only marginally impacted quality of life.
