Definitely, most of the big players and brokers make money on volatility in a stock. WDS plays perfectly as only a very small investment from Australian super funds support this stock.
Reading the play in the US and its impact to WDS, I will say that any shareholder would be very short term focused to consider selling this stock. Trump is hyper focused on Texas energy building and servicing data centres are his main priority . The approval of permits for gas exporters in Louisiana are being rushed through and Saudi are intending to spend 600 billion on infrastructure services in the US and keen to capitalise on a shift of policy in the short term. Having Ammonia plant in Texas and huge gas exporting capacity in Louisiana would without question benefit WDS and the US. Once FID is announced and if Armaco are onboard as a partner , considering that they bid on Driftwood. You would expect the share to rocket, and the fact that a free trade agreement with Australia and the Saudis now exists.
The Russian sanctions have now hit India, they have approval of Russian oil capped at $60 USD and can only use unsanctioned shipping vessels until 27Feb25. Given the cost has doubled in shipping, India no longer can benefit by playing both sides of politics and maintaining a financial advantage for exports that they had under Biden. Trump has requested a drop in oil prices from the Saudis to offset the sanctions on Russia to increase production, by doing so forcing Russian to end the war on Ukraine. This will either end the war quickly or cripple Russia’s economy. In return Trump wants the Saudis to invest 1 trillion in the US.
Activist groups supported by billionaires that fund campaigns (referred by Exxon) will be targeted by the Trump Administration.
A full page insult on Trump from the daughter of an Australian billionaire and their personal investment in Canada’s nickel will not fare to well with impeding tariffs possibly imposed on China and Canada. Trump knows how to squeeze on countries that support businesses opposed to his vision and China will play ball with Trump. Hence while Gina placed a full page ad of support. Rio and Royhill should do well and China would be pressed to support her over other iron ore companies.
The worst part about it is that Australia will no longer be a leading exporter of O/G due to ALP policy, and taxpayers will be buying gas from overseas exporters such as Amraco who have now entered in to oil trading business.
