I am also from WA but have been in the game about 3 times longer than you.
IMO the governments of Victoria, Queensland and NSW have made their own beds, and now the people are suffering the consequences.
As I understand things, Victoria has forbidden any and all exploration for gas, NSW has no gas import terminal capacity, and my friend at ConocoPhillips says Queensland had no desire whatsoever for any gas to be reserved for domestic use from the Gladstone facility.
Although named after the Victorian town of it's origin, WDS is no longer involved in any east coast gas.
WDS could ship gas to the east coast but the eastern states are unable to receive it. If they built facilities then WDS would sell to them.
The West Australian gas producers all provide reserves for WA needs.
