I think you may be missing the point.'

We are not an independent nation.

We are a dependent nation. In particular we are dependent on others for a defence. We have no nuclear weapons and this is partially why we still need to be part of the Commonwealth for military reasons unless subsets of the geographical society fuse as part of non-geographical belief nations across the borders we have today.

I mentioned this to others years ago and they really could not refute it the defence requirement. The republic debate is just an argument over semantics and a diversion for people in politics afraid to make real decisions of importance. It is like if they are in a hard place requiring tough decisions they do think of the greater good but some in history prefer to create a diversion by starting a war as another example. Like some right one way to control threats is to create confusion. The trouble is now a lot of smart people are aware of this with full information and have counter measures to inhibit such tyrannies. This is where a dumbed down society will only go so far because when the kamikazes become geniuses from lack of opportunity under the repression of power structures the structurally powerful become weak like against the uni bomber and other more advanced measures of the revolutionary intelligent particularly when they get collaborative and desperate like in Germany after World War 1. Hopefully, the next revolution will be strategic so the chances of World War III is minimised and the powerful can be overthrown by the meritorious and advanced in a smart strategic harmonious way through win wins in at least some relative sense. The trouble is the weak and dependent clinging to power, are afraid of letting go such power and that is the main source of conflict as they know no other way than to thrive from power and become redundant in the real progressive world of performance and a beast that cannot adapt, as life on earth demonstrates, one way or other dies as life finds away regardless of elites attempts at intervention!

The bottom line is change is inevitable in an evolving dynamic world as history demonstrates! When a growing base demands a better opportunity or else on balance in terms of required change that is a catalyst for evolution or even revolution regardless of the status quo from an elite whether the change is for better or worse!
