Just reading from the Oil & Gas Production Handbook, production wells are free flowing or lifted, a free flowing oil well has enough down hole pressure to reach a suitable wellhead production pressure and maintain an acceptable well flow, if the formation pressure is too low, and water or gas injection cannot maintain pressure or is not suitable, the the well must be artificially lifted.
Remember seeing movies of Texas with all those big pumps going up and down, they are Rod pumps (donkey pumps) and are the most common artificial lift system in land based operation, they are motor driven.
If there is oil there and its not flowing, then you can pump it out - Fause has a bubblin crude, so what did Jed do.
