Uranium mining in the mountain range of Mecsek, south Hungary, could restart. Australia-based Wild Horse is interested in the area’s estimated at 30,000 ton reserves.
Wild Horse Hungary has four-year permits for research and preparatory activities. Mining could start before the four-year permits run out, said László Hajdú, Wild Horse's communication director. Current plans involve exploring a 420 square kilometer area. Uranium mining was halted in the Mecsek area in 1997 due to the outdated and costly technology used.
