We cant cast aluminium & machine castings for;
-engine blocks
-transmission casings
-alternators
-starters
-air cond compressors
-air cond evaporators
-air cond evaporators
-calliper pistons
-master cyl pistons
etc. etc . etc
because:
-the world auto market is only 91 million units
-produced in over 40 countries
-we have FTAs with USA, Korea, Japan, Thailand and soon with China.
And we cant do this because our labour charges are too high even though
Cad-Cam labour input to these products is less than 10% of the Cad-Cam
process.
And we cant do all this in Gladstone even though Gladstone has molten aluminium,
lashings of LNG and coal and some of the cheapest electricity in the world.
No, instead China, Japan, Korea can import our coal, aluminium ingots, LNG
and do it themselves and then flog it back to us embedded in cars, SIVs and commercial vehicles.
Na, we cant do it............................great at sport, but!
