You wouldn’t factor in a shoe buying spree by the First Lady ( I don’t see any reason to go into the internal guttings of that nation by their elected officials, that’s still happening today)?
The Yanks, regardless of what anyone thinks about them, pumped obscene amounts of money into the PI economy up until the late 80’s or was it 1990?
Was it mainly the government officials who benefited, ill take a stab in the dark and say “ yes”.
For want of a better terminology, when PI had its equivalent of the Arab Spring, they kicked the Yanks out!
The so called saviours of PI threw away the country’s biggest earner and I’m sure, that has had as big an effect on the state of the PI that we see today as anything from 70 odd years ago.
