Wonder if we will get an update on the port as well ? with Ernest Henry starting to process Exco's CCP ore - they will need to have more port capacity if they are going to be sending all the the concentrate from E.H and Mt Isa offshore to be smelted and refined after they close the North Queensland facilities ?


Xstrata hears 'apprehension' over copper smelting end

Mining company Xstrata has addressed the public about its plans to phase out copper smelting and refining in north Queensland.

A weekend community consultation meeting in Mount Isa, in the state's north-west, was the first since the decision was announced.

Xstrata chief operating officer Steve de Kruijff says he understands why people are apprehensive.

"I've had a few people ask some harder questions, which we saw tonight," he said.

"They probably have a particular interest in some part of that but it's been mainly positive.

"There was a bit of apprehension obviously, because when things do close, you need to be sure that you have a future."
