but sticking with your chart anyway, there are important reasons why fires spiked as during is the simplest, easier means of clearing land when heavy machinery, capable of clearing wide areas of bush, wasn't available. we've seen the same in Brazil since the 60's and Indonesia since the food producers started using palm oil.
the global warming related trend is just starting..... if the recent massive increase in wildfires, related to extended severe drought and dramatic low humidity levels, as Aus experienced over 2017-2019 causing our massive fires, continues we will return to such conditions by 2024, unless we have an unprecedented 4th La Niña event in '23.
