I don't think we are heading to a cleaner planet at the moment. 90% of the oceans garbage / plastic comes from SE Asia and not much is being done. Here in Australia, until recently we used to ship our garbage overseas for recycling, now we send it to land fill. A lot of the glass recycling we do in Australia goes to land fills as well. Australia's record at recycling is poor. But if you think Australia can alter (reduce or "clean up") the atmosphere's 0.04% CO2 by our full global contribution of 1.2% (0.012 x 0.004 = 0.000048%) then you are clutching at straws.
