What the hell is going on with the response to the virus? There has been no debate about it or consultation with the public about the draconian response which is now going to ruin this country and probably irredeemably. The current response is going to; • Stop the economy and the circular flow of income • Bankrupt the vast majority of businesses • Put vast swathes of working Australians into unemployment • Destroy personal wealth, house prices and the value of money itself • End our personal liberties
Now the virus is terrible and will probably kill 250,000 Australians, the vast majority of whom are elderly or have underlying medical conditions. That is awful, as are 100k dying of obesity and 50k dying of flu every year, but neither of those things illicit a response that produces the outcome I have outlined above.
What is required is that common sense prevails and we conduct measures to protect the vulnerable and does not destroy everything. Alas I think it’s too late the politicians have chosen their course and the consequences will be truly terrible.
