Raks actually answered this pretty well...in fact what he posted is exactly what I do.
In terms of a first heads up on many of them however...I have no networks or contacts to speak of, in fact just about every stock that has ever been tipped to me has no performed well.
For me, first heads up usually comes from an announcement...as Raks suggests...or indeed, a chart "blimp", such as a high volume surge, percentage spike, or many other "out of the ordinary" trigger events on the charts.
This gets my attention, after which I then look into what cuased it and eventually, on selet stocks, a more detailed investigative process.
At the end of the day, very few of these daily "triggers" make it through for serious consideration.
I can go weeks without a single stock hitting my radar...or can have as many as 3 or more turn up on a single day.
The importance here is that by scanning for postential stocks, reading up on them and trying to determin the mechanics behind the unusual trading, more or less results in one becoming informed about all manner of stocks...ehich in time, rubs off as an ongoing knowledge base.
There are no short-cuts in this regard. I notice some say they canot be bothered reading up on stocks...lol...they will never make a "living" from the markets.
Cheers!
