    The wisdom of Mr Bowen is so deep that many of us can't keep up.
    We are going to give up gas and coal for a renewables and battery future. We are going to have lots of batteries. How many?

    At the moment the East Coast electricity network distributes up to 55,000 MW of electricity.
    EVs and giving up gas heating and population growth will increase that but lets just consider 55,000 MW

    At night solar production is zero. Suppose the wind stops for a few hours, as it does, then;
    Then we have Tasmanian hydro making a total of 2600 MW, Snowy Hydro making 5500 MW and Snowy 2.0 making 2200MW. Total Hydro say 11,000 MW.

    The other 44,000 MW would have to come from batteries for say 10 hours. Thats 440,000 MWHrs of battery storage (hope all those batteries are full).

    How big is that? The biggest battery bank planned in Australia is the 2,400 MWHr Syncline. We will need at least 183 of these.

    If the next night is calm we will need candles. Lots of candles.
