1. During the 1974-1976 OPEC crisis the stock market melted down 40% in a terrible recession. Gold did not rise. It crashed about 50%.

2. When gold soared to its January 1980 high it was not alone. Commodities were booming and the stock market was NOT crashing, but holding its own in a trading range.

3. Gold fell by 40% during the 2008/09 financial meltdown.
