Gillard has attempted it by moving single mums onto new start.
Joe Hockey has touched onto the need for reform.
We have an affluent society so why do we pay out so much in welfare?
Yes and Howard is partly responsible, equally Whitland planted the seed.
Welfare is to great a drain on our country and costs need to be curbed.
I think there is time to consider some form of system that rewards those that contribute. If you have worked and paid tax for 35 years why should you be treated like another who has never worked.
The current system makes it to easy to never work and take sit down money for ever. If the benefit is linked to your contribution to the system u may find some citizens more inclined to work.
Benefits should not be linked to level o tax paid.
If a citizen becomes unemployed or disabled the immediate economic shift is massive as opposed to the person who sip ends a life time perfecting computer games.
I'm trying to think of a fair reward to tax payers and discourage those that purposefully never contribute.
