Many immigrant Iranians in the west fled Iran at the time of the jimmy carter assisted ayatolla takeover of Iran and as such they grew up and lived in Iran during the time of the Shah when many Iranians were highly westernized and sophisticated and indeed wine/alcohol consumption would have been a regular item of consumption for many of them throughout their lives...
In my experience most of those Iran folk who fled Iran during that takoever are urbane, sophisticated, western-thinking types of people who have the mentality and skills to integrate seamlessly and easily into western societies across the world...
Of course many of these folk fled Iran because their associations with the Shah's regime include some close and often emplyment in the Shah's dreaded Savak or secret police...
Many of these folk are indeed urbane and sophisticated unless you happen to be on the wrong end of a cattle-prod, chainsaw or electical electrodes attached to your gentials in a Savak torture chamber, but I suspect that you would not have the cognitive capacity to be able to get any sort of grasp on that detail...
