The VRC missed a great opportunity to spread the word that they were running things & not the Freedmans & the Welds. Imagine next year the VRC inviting a dry tracker like Eye Popper down to contest the 2006 cup. The E-P boys could be heard to ask their policy on watering ( or drying ) of the track. AS things stand the VRC would have to disclaim a policy & lead to the thought they would do whatever they were bullied into. The E-P crew may say " thanks but no thanks. Stick it up your Khyber" or whatever is the equivalent Japanese rhyming slang. I'm not opposed to track watering as such just so everyone knows the rules & they are followed with consistency & are not applied ad hoc. It is not beyond the realms of possibility that some aggrieved owner,trainer, jockey or punter may have a cause of action agin the VRC.
