But they can get enormous royalties from the exclusive licence and still own the IP.
However, if you get a fresh team of people working on an old idea, there is a chance that they might be able to modify or adapt it sufficiently to fall outside the boundaries of the IP, and ECT could create their own.
Unless the licencee has signed an agreement prohibiting that, there is a risk to the IP owner. An arguement for a stake in the company then?
