I truly believe it is the fences these days that have made most neighbours not communicate with each other. The days of the old wire fence 90cms high are long gone and replaced with 1.8-2.0m pine palings or colorbond (worse fences around I reckon). Don't get me wrong I get along with both of our side neighbours as well as the 4 others across the street from us, but ever putting up the boundary fence the "catching up" chats just are not there as it was once was when there was no fence at all.
