I do not follow BNB - perhaps there were news article about highly leveraged, complex debt securities and so on during the said period. During the said period, lot of outcry about subprimes by several authors in the US. However, we did not catch on until quite late.
BHP is a different animal ...dig and sell - but I could be wrong. What could be happening now - fundies are selling down those shares that in the money to offset those in the red. Also possible redemptions of various funds. Fundamentals are still there.
