I went back to look at prior BHP bear markets and came up with the following figures:
(1987 Crash): Duration = 4 months. % Fall from peak = 46%
(Jun 1997-Dec 1998): Duration = 19 months. % Fall = 47%
(Feb 2002-Jul 2003): Duration = 18 months. % Fall = 29%
Now this current BHP bear market has the following stats. Commencing the start of the bear market from the $50 peak in May 2008, and using yesterdays low as the "current" low so far:
(May 2008 - Present): Duration = 5 months. % Fall = 38%
Having a look at these figures and considering the potential magnitude of the "crisis" at hand, i think the BHP bear mkt has got further to run :(
Note: Figures have been rounded to whole numbers!!! So dont bother quoting exact decimal figures in an attempt to correct me!!!!!!! This is just meant as a gauge not an exact measurement down to the upteenth degree!!!!
