Hi All .... Summer is in full swing across Aus.
No ones been spared, day after day of a heat
wave. I don't mind the heat, these days it just
means watching a bit more cricket or catching
up with emails, all the while under the comfort
of air conditioning .
As a kid, I dreaded the end of school and summer
holidays bearing upon us. Sounds strange but
growing up on a fruit block, summer meant work.

First off the block were the apricots. We would
pick them, cut them, put them in the sulphur
boxes overnight & then lay them out on their
trays the next morning to dry.This process was
repeated daily for around four weeks, cutting
right through Xmas and finishing around
New Year. It was hard work especially when
It was stinking hot, but in those days we all
did it, we didn't complain it was just how it was.
When apricots were finished we would have
about a week off before the peaches would
start. Horrible things to pick in the heat. By
days end you would be itchy all over from
the fluff on their skin. Peaches would just
about see us through to a new school year
before the Sultanas & wine grapes got ripe.

Now why am I telling this story?
The other day while asking the kids to pack
their pool toys away after swimming all
arvo, they told me they were too hot & tired.

So I fired up one of my when I was a kid
stories for them. I sound more like my Dad
everyday.... but that's all good because he's
a great bloke.
