In a previous life Trillie ,like your dad i was a Train Driver …Left school at a tender age of 15 …& here’s a shock for YOUSE school & myself didnt get along too well .Too young to go on the road so was a shed firemans mate otherwise refuelling returned locomotives until 17yrs old then started my journey through the ranks .Thankfully i missed the steam days …apparently a hard slog .A lot of drivers found it hard converting from steam to Diesel .My Depots included Thirroul /Port Kembla /Goulburn & Junee .Must admit it was a wonderful experience/job but left when the children arrived ,due to long hours ,mainly night work & working practically every 2nd weekend .In my early days had a permanent (Driver) mate who taut me the job/skills to become a Driver …Use to pick him up for work & often had dinner at his place….On return trips we use to toss a coin to see who would drive up or back ..he had no hesitations on letting me drive once he had confidence …much loved/missed “Judge”…Still have my licence today

No offence but what steam people say is:
"My grandmother can drive a diesel"

@poyndexter I wait for my toast to cool down before I put the butter on so it sits on top and then mix the vegemite with it. Just what I do. Yum yum.
