- verb (used without object)
- to sing or whistle with trills, quavers, or melodic embellishments: The canaries have been warbling for nearly a month now.
What will we awaken to - (a) USD decimation with rising prices and increasing speculation, (b) USD recovery with increased USD demand and associated springtime jipper, or (c) USD safety due to poor air quality and high investor attrition. What's the canary singing about? Lock in A please Eddie, even though I'm going to lose my AU shorts, am long copper so knock yourself out. Kill the bird or let it sing will you!
Going to throw some AUS trade figures at you with this opener. Demand for Iron ore and coal remains robust = steel industry demand. A revival? A continuation? Refer DJUSST index and MT and VALE stock tickers. December 2010 trade figures look great - or might be an outlier after the poor results of November. Rising oil prices will put downward pressure on our trade balance squeezing global output (and demand) in the process. We're use to paying $6 a gallon, unlike our US brethren whose petrol is subsidised by the remaining global community.
AUS trade surplus climbed up on the back of exports for iron ore, coal, natgas and ..... gold (in at no.4 commodity surplus). No thanks at all to growing motor vehicles and crude imports. ABS says it's non-monetary gold - might be time to revise the ABS classifications since all gold is money. Ask anyone who bought gold above $1300
2 commodities single handedly afford Australia it's high standard of living with low inflation. Gold is the surprise package.
AUS total exports and import trends - looking +ve or is Dec2010 an outlier?
Best trade surplus (highest by value) as shown against the trade balance
Worst trade deficits (lowest -ve by value) as shown against the trade balance
Best (highest by value) trade exports as shown against the trade balance
Worst (highest by value) trade imports as shown against the trade balance
At least we did reduce motor vehicle sales during the GFC.
Bottom line - if it weren't for global demand of Aus primary industries, we would be a bankrupted nation. Import duties long since extinct in the USA are the savour of many a mispent Australian Parliament helping to fund the incompetence of the hypocrisy.
