How big were NAND chips 20 years ago? My first memory stick was 128MB. Capacity is merely a matter of scaling up the size of the chips, and multilayering (3D). This is fairly straightforward engineering work once the basic technology is developed. WBT is already scaled to 22nm, as apposed to 28nm and 40nm for flash. So for a given chip size and number of layers, WBT can already scale to about twice the capacity of the best NAND.

Remember too, that functionally WBT is closer to NOR flash, with direct bit-level addressability. So we are not even really comparing apples to apples here. NOR flash is bulkier and far more expensive than NAND, which is why NAND is more popular. But NOR has big advantages over NAND that will be shared by WBT.

In terms of multilayering, with approx 1/100th the power dissipation, and a simpler process, the limits to multilayering will be far greater for WBT's ReRAM than for flash (leading edge 3D NAND flash is already over 400 layers).

NAND is a mature technology that has already hit it's scaling limit. And however far they can push 3D layering of NAND, it's a fair bet that WBT will be able go at least an order of magnitude further.

    All IMO.
