    You are correct that there are no rare earth elements used for WBT solution. I recall at some time there was conjecture about a possible doping agent but that seems to have been a red herring and has not been mention in some time.

    As an aside, despite the name, rare earths are by no means rare. They are in fact very common. The issue is extraction (or rather separation) from bulk mining materials.

    There is another technology from the lab of our Dr. James Tour focussed on a better and more effective means of recovering rare earths if you are interested... Just google Flash Joule Heating.
